The Tátorján Nature Trail in Balatonkenese runs along the high loess cliffs of Soós Hill, offering a unique natural experience for visitors. 

The route is well-marked and easy to follow, while presenting the geological and botanical values of the area. The trail is named after the rare and protected Tátorján plant, one of whose most significant habitats in Hungary can be found here. Along the way, visitors can also explore the “Tatárlikak” cave dwellings carved into the loess wall, which are associated with local legends. From the cliff top, there are stunning panoramic views over the eastern basin of Lake Balaton and the surrounding settlements. The Tátorján Nature Trail is an ideal outing for families, nature lovers, and anyone looking for an easy yet rewarding hike.

The introductions of wineries and winemakers often begin like this: “…as a descendant of a third-generation cooper family…” My story is different. Allow me to introduce myself: I am Zoltán Szabadics. An engineer, a businessman, the husband of a wonderful woman – Éva Rádi – who has given birth to five sons, and for the past few years, a hobby viticulturist and winemaker, as well as a sommelier. 

How did I come into contact with nature, viticulture, and thus winemaking? As easy as it is to define, it is just as difficult—but organizing my thoughts and avoiding clichés, here it is: After a full day of business meetings in Budapest, I returned home longing for nothing more than peaceful silence and nature… So my path led me straight to the “hill” of Zalaszabar. As I mentioned, I try to avoid clichés, but not then and there—because nature spoke to me and captivated me. Sharing this experience with my wife, we made an immediate decision. As productive, constructive individuals who continuously build and create, we saw that this wonderful landscape—with its remarkable natural endowments—was on the verge of decline. The idea emerged to purchase the former Baán Estate together with Éva and revive it: our goal is to restore the prestige of Zala wines to where it stood a century ago. To the forefront. We raise our children with a love for nature, production, and the land; the five of them together shape the legend of Kányaváry. We trust that the estate we envisioned, along with its excellent flavors, aromas, and atmosphere, will bring great joy to our visitors as well. Estate Our family vineyard overlooks the picturesque protected natural area of Kis-Balaton, at the heart of which lies the famous bird reserve, Kányavári Island. Inspired by the mystique of the Kányavári name and wine, we created the name Kányaváry Wine Estate. This compound evokes the world of a noble, mystical medieval family, reflecting the romantic untouched character of the landscape, which inspires the imagination.

Bor.Zene.Zala Festival 

A music and gastronomy festival at the magical Kányaváry Wine Estate, at Kis-Balaton.

The Szaplonczay Promenade, also known as the Panorama Promenade, is considered the most romantic street in Fonyód. 

Lined with majestic century-old trees and elegant villas, it offers a unique atmosphere enhanced by its breathtaking views over Lake Balaton. This picturesque walkway is especially popular among visitors, as it provides one of the most beautiful panoramas in the region. From the top of the loess cliff, a stunning view opens up to the blue-green waters of the “Hungarian Sea” and the iconic Badacsony mountain rising in the distance. While Badacsony dominates the landscape, the witness hills of the northern shore also form part of the remarkable scenery. 

An information board along the promenade helps visitors identify these volcanic hills. The area is also linked to Hungarian art history: the renowned painter Pál Szinyei Merse created several of his Balaton-themed works in this region. Interestingly, he chose to leave Badacsony out of his paintings, as he did not favor its shape within the composition of the landscape.

The Trabi Tour in Veszprém offers a unique sightseeing experience, allowing participants to explore the city and its surroundings behind the wheel of iconic Trabant cars.

The Fonyód Dog-Friendly Beach is the first officially designated dog-friendly beach on Lake Balaton, opened on 1 June 2016. 

It was created to provide a safe and enjoyable space where dogs and their owners can swim and relax together by the lake. The beach is located in Fonyód, on the free-access lakeside area behind the water police station, close to the harbour. It covers a well-maintained grassy area of more than 10,000 square metres, offering plenty of space for both pets and their owners. The area is equipped with practical amenities such as shaded spots under trees, waste bins, and dedicated dog waste disposal units, ensuring a clean and comfortable environment. The gently sloping shoreline allows easy access to the water, making it ideal for dogs of all sizes. Combining a relaxed atmosphere with thoughtful infrastructure, the Fonyód Dog Beach has become a popular destination for pet owners seeking a truly shared Balaton experience.

Located in the heart of Veszprém, close to the historic Old Town, Füge Fagyiudvar and Café has become one of the city’s most popular meeting spots thanks to its artisanal ice creams and welcoming atmosphere.

Our medicinal water, classified as calcium-magnesium hydrogen carbonate, stands out among Hungarian thermal spas and offers true recreation for our guests. Outdoors, there is a seasonally operating medicinal sitting pool and a medicinal swimming pool, both accessible even with the basic (“green zone”) ticket. In the indoor spa area, available all year round, a glass-partitioned section features a medicinal pool with weight-bath and neck-shower functions (including a lift for guests with reduced mobility), as well as a circular sitting pool with water temperatures of 32–36 °C, ensuring peaceful relaxation. In the adult-only “white zone” medicinal pools, guests can relax on loungers. Next to the pools, regular consumption of the drinking water available in the Silence Room is recommended for digestive issues.

Set in the heart of Transdanubia, just 20 km from Lake Balaton near Sümeg, this family-run experience invites visitors to discover the hidden treasures of nature through truffle hunting and gastronomy. 

Guests can join guided truffle hunts in nearby forests, led by trained Labrador dogs that expertly locate these prized delicacies, often referred to as the “gold of the soil.” The freshly unearthed truffles are then presented and served at a traditional rural table, offering an authentic and intimate tasting experience in a friendly countryside setting. In addition to truffle hunting, the farm is also dedicated to breeding Aberdeen Angus cattle, known for their outstanding genetics and premium meat quality.

Designed for small groups (6–12 people), the program is ideal for friends, families, or team-building events seeking a unique combination of nature, gastronomy, and hands-on experience.

Located in the historic castle district of Veszprém, the Veszprém Dungeon Visitor Centre offers an immersive journey into the world of crime, punishment, and justice. 

Stepping through the gates of the former prison, visitors are introduced to the everyday lives of inmates, the stories of outlaws, and the hidden roles of executioners, all revealed within these historic walls. The interactive exhibition leads through original cells and atmospheric spaces, presenting the evolution of justice through engaging and thought-provoking displays. The experience highlights not only the harsh realities of the past but also the human stories behind them. A visit to the dungeon provides a powerful and memorable perspective on history, encouraging reflection on justice, discipline, and human fate.

Located in the heart of Balatonfüred, surrounded by shady plane trees, Vaszary Galéria (Vaszary Gallery) is one of the most prominent cultural venues in the Lake Balaton region. 

Housed in the elegant Vaszary Villa, a Neo-Renaissance building from the second half of the 19th century, the gallery reflects both historical charm and artistic sophistication. The villa was commissioned by Kolos Vaszary, Archabbot of Pannonhalma and later a cardinal, who sought peace and inspiration by the lakeside. Today, the protected historic building hosts a dynamic programme of temporary and permanent exhibitions, along with literary events and concerts. The gallery regularly showcases works by Hungarian and international artists, including pieces by János Vaszary, one of the most influential Hungarian painters of the 20th century. 

Set within the elegant park of the Balatonfüred Cultural Quarter, the gallery is surrounded by cafés, exhibition spaces, and historic buildings, creating an intimate yet vibrant cultural atmosphere. Vaszary Galéria is not only an exhibition venue but also a meeting point of art, history, and the distinctive spirit of Lake Balaton.

The three-level wooden Jókai Lookout Tower stands on Tamás Hill above Balatonfüred, offering a panoramic view over Lake Balaton, the town’s distinctive buildings, and the entire Tihany Peninsula. 

The lookout can be reached either from the Lóczy Cave or from the Tamás Hill Cross, both connected by marked hiking trails. The ascent is relatively steep, and the green triangle route from the cave is covered with small, slightly slippery gravel, requiring some caution. Starting from the cross, visitors can follow the Aranyember Nature Trail, a 600-metre path inspired by the novel The Man with the Golden Touch by Mór Jókai. Along the trail, themed resting spots offer scenic viewpoints before reaching the lookout tower, where a wide and memorable landscape unfolds at the top. Access to the lookout is from the Tamás Hill Cross in the northern part of Balatonfüred. A free parking area is located just a few minutes’ walk from the cross, while visitors arriving by public transport should expect a 10–15 minute walk from the nearest bus stop, “Tamási Áron utca.”

The Keszthely City Market welcomes visitors from Monday to Saturday in a pleasant atmosphere, offering goods from local producers. 

Alongside sun-ripened fresh vegetables and fruits, visitors can find artisanal cheeses, smoked meats, honey products, colorful flowers, and various household goods. Market days in Keszthely are held every Wednesday and Saturday. If you are in the city center, the market is easily accessible on foot from the end of the main square, just a short walk from the Festetics Palace. By car, it can be reached from Rákóczi Street via Unterberger Street. There are 174 parking spaces available in the immediate vicinity of the market, with the first hour of parking free of charge.
