Past, Present, Future – This is Club Tihany Resort It is no exaggeration to say that the Hungarian heart beats in Tihany; there is perhaps no more important village in the country.
The gently rolling peninsula in the middle of Lake Balaton defines the view of the lake from almost everywhere. Moreover, Tihany holds outstanding significance both spiritually and historically, not to mention its linguistic and transport importance. Based on the plans of Attila Kun, one of the main buildings of today’s Club Tihany, the Tihany Hotel, was completed by 1963. The building was developed as a modified version of the Balaton Hotel in Siófok and was significantly expanded in 1985 with a completely new wing. The famous Hungarian film The Pagan Madonna was also partly set here, with the character Ötvös Csöpi staying in the hotel. At the time of its completion, the building was considered very modern: thanks to its perpendicular orientation to the lake, every room had a view of the water, and it even featured a “Mopresso,” which functioned both as a cinema and a nightclub. The current form and layout of the hotel are the result of a consortium of Austrian and Hungarian companies, which jointly created the holiday complex now known as Club Tihany between 1983 and 1986. This ownership structure has remained unchanged ever since. Already in the 1980s, Club Tihany introduced a completely new concept to Lake Balaton. The idea of a club holiday was to provide guests with all services necessary for their entire stay within the complex. As a result, the club hotel included a swimming pool, gym, sauna, hairdresser, tennis hall, additional pools, and several bars. From the very beginning, guests could rent boats, windsurf boards, sailboats, and pedal boats, and childcare services were also available. Today, these services have expanded significantly, including children’s animation programmes, sports activities, a wellness and spa area, and an outdoor stage. As the original Tihany Hotel did not offer sufficient capacity, it was extended with a new wing. Guests staying at Club Tihany today can see this layout, where the original lake-perpendicular wing connects in an L-shape to the newer building. In addition, in 1985, 161 wooden houses made of larch were installed in the park surrounding the hotel, imported from Denmark. These were later complemented by wine houses and Swiss-style Kalmár cottages.
Today, Club Tihany Resort welcomes its guests at the tip of the picturesque Tihany Peninsula, directly on the waterfront, across 130,000 m². It offers the largest conference capacity (2,600 people) and accommodation capacity (1,450 people) on the shores of Lake Balaton, along with a 1,200 m² wellness island and a wide range of children’s and sports programmes. The hotel section provides 330 non-smoking rooms of various types and orientations, some with balconies, both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned. The furnishings and facilities ensure complete comfort for both short stays and longer visits. In the park surrounding the hotel building, shaded by the trees of a charming historic park, the complex offers accommodation in 160 wooden houses of various types, capacities, and locations, many of which are partially air-conditioned and equipped with kitchens. These are ideal for guests who prefer a more independent form of accommodation. Pets are also welcome in the wooden houses.
