Csillagvár (Star Castle) is a unique, star-shaped historical building located near Balatonszentgyörgy on the southwestern shore of Lake Balaton. 

Originally built in the early 1820s by Count László Festetics as a hunting lodge, the structure was later expanded with defensive elements, giving it the appearance of a fortified medieval castle. The building’s distinctive four-pointed star layout is considered highly unusual and architecturally unique. Today, it functions as a museum complex that offers an immersive insight into Hungarian history and everyday life in past centuries. Inside the castle, visitors can explore detailed exhibitions including a medieval life panorama with lifelike scenes, a traditional kitchen, guard rooms, and a central hall featuring a deep historical well. The underground sections house a remarkable hussar museum, presenting the evolution of Hungarian light cavalry through detailed figures and displays. Surrounded by a park-like environment, the site also offers interactive and family-friendly experiences such as traditional craft demonstrations, archery, animal encounters, and cultural events, making it both an educational and entertaining destination. 

With its combination of unique architecture, historical exhibitions, and experiential programs, Csillagvár is one of the most distinctive cultural attractions in the Balaton region.

Near Balatonederics, on the eastern edge of the Keszthely Hills, lies the strictly protected Csodabogyós Cave, which is the ninth longest cave in Hungary and the sixth longest in Transdanubia. 

The cave opens at an elevation of 393 metres above sea level, within a strictly protected area of the Balaton Uplands National Park. It is named after the spiny butcher’s broom (Ruscus aculeatus), an evergreen shrub visible near the entrance, which reaches its northern distribution limit here. The currently known passages of the cave extend to a total length of 6 kilometres, with a depth of -136 metres (it should be noted that cave tours only cover a small section of this length). The cave’s passages were primarily formed by tectonic movements, and are therefore mainly characterised by fissure corridors, chambers, and shafts. In certain sections—such as the Hanging Garden and Fairyland, which are also included in guided tours—a remarkably rich and diverse range of formations (stalactites, etc.) can be found by Transdanubian standards. Its large and spectacular fissures provide a natural geological cross-section, revealing the layers of the Upper Triassic Ederics Limestone Formation in which the cave was formed. Due to its size, impressive formations, and relatively accessible passages, the cave is ideal as a “teaching cave,” offering opportunities to learn the techniques and practice of caving, as well as to demonstrate tectonic processes and various formations. The Devecser–Meggyeserdei Flea Market is a popular destination for true treasure hunters. If you are determined, you can browse through a wide variety of items every Sunday morning, searching for unique finds and hidden gems. Located on the outskirts of Devecser, this large second-hand market is one of the best-known of its kind in Hungary, attracting visitors, traders, and resellers alike. 

The market operates on weekends, typically opening early in the morning, making it an ideal program for early risers looking for antiques, vintage items, or bargain deals in a lively, authentic atmosphere. Whether you are a collector or simply curious, the market offers a unique experience where every visit can bring a new discovery.

The lesser known ruins of a gothic building from the late 14th century. 

It is definitely worth climbing up to the almost 400 meter high ruins by foot or by bicycle from Barnag, as the fabulous location offers an incomparable view of Lake Balaton.

Veszprémi Sportuszoda (Veszprém Sports Swimming Complex) is a modern sports and wellness facility designed for both active training and relaxation. 

The complex welcomes visitors looking to swim, exercise, or unwind in a comfortable and well-equipped environment. The venue features a 50-metre competition pool, a 25-metre training pool, a learner pool, and a leisure pool with massage elements. In addition, a dedicated sauna world offers further opportunities for relaxation and recovery. Thanks to its professional infrastructure, the facility is also suitable for hosting international swimming competitions, while remaining accessible to the public for everyday use.

Balaton Ballooning offers a unique hot air balloon experience above the western part of Lake Balaton, with departures near Hévíz and Keszthely. 

During the flight, participants can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Lake Balaton, Lake Hévíz, the wetlands of Kis-Balaton, as well as the volcanic hills of the Balaton Uplands and the rolling landscapes of Zala County. Flights typically take place in the late afternoon and end around sunset, providing especially scenic light conditions. 

The full program lasts approximately 3 hours, including transfer, safety briefing, and preparation of the balloon, while the actual flight takes about 1 hour at altitudes of up to 1000–1500 meters. After landing, guests are welcomed with a traditional champagne toast and a ceremonial “initiation,” along with a commemorative certificate. The experience is not considered an extreme sport, but it does require basic physical fitness and is dependent on weather conditions.

Around 1520, a small chapel is said to have mysteriously wandered from Kalocsa to Andocs, accompanied by a shining bright epiphany of Mary. 

Since then, Andocs has been a well-known pilgrimage site, to which the road through Jabapuszta leads. This is where this 300-year-old oak tree stands, which once also had a religious picture of St. Vendel hanging on it, making the pilgrims stop for a rest on their way to the chapel. The picture of the saint has unfortunately disappeared by now, but the tree is still visited by many.

It is a relentless fun to discover the stone sea of Szentbékkálla. 

During each visit you can discover new forms in the rocks, which were formed about 10 million years ago of the sediments of the Pannonian Sea which covered the area back then. Climbing on the rocks, admiring the crystals hidden in the stone, playing hide and seek between the formations or tilting the pendulous Kelemen stone is a truly great amusement!
