About Lake Balaton

Lake Balaton is Central Europe’s largest lake, often called the "Hungarian Sea".

Getting to Balaton by Car

Lake Balaton is easily accessible via Hungary’s highway network. From Budapest, the M7 motorway takes you straight to the lake in 1–1.5 hours. Siófok, Balatonboglár, Fonyód, and Keszthely are all located along or near this route.

To use Hungarian motorways, a valid motorway vignette (e-matrica) is required. Purchase it before entering the toll section.

Where to Buy the Vignette:

The vignette is digital – no sticker needed. Options include 10-day, monthly, or annual passes. Always verify the license plate number when buying.
