Explore the Volcanic Badacsony Hill

Badacsony’s distinctive flat-topped silhouette was shaped by volcanic activity millions of years ago, leaving behind dramatic basalt formations that can still be explored today. Hiking trails lead through forests and past towering basalt columns, with viewpoints opening towards Lake Balaton and the surrounding volcanic hills of the Tapolca Basin. Take in the View from Kisfaludy Lookout

At 438 metres above sea level, Kisfaludy Lookout stands at the highest point of Badacsony and rewards the climb with one of the area’s most impressive panoramas. From the top, the view stretches across Lake Balaton and the distinctive volcanic hills of the Tapolca Basin, making it a memorable stop in almost any season. The lookout can be reached on foot via several hiking routes, including trails leading up from the Rózsakő area. Find out more

Discover the Stories of Badacsony

Badacsony’s landscape is closely intertwined with the artists and stories that shaped its cultural identity. One of its best-known landmarks is the Rózsakő, a large basalt rock associated with the love story of poet Sándor Kisfaludy and Róza Szegedy – and with a local legend that couples who sit on it together will marry within a year. Nearby, the Szegedy Róza House preserves the atmosphere of Badacsony’s historic wine culture, while the Egry József Memorial Museum introduces visitors to the painter whose images of Lake Balaton became an important part of the region’s artistic heritage. Experience Badacsony by the Lake

Badacsony is not only about the mountain. Down by the waterfront, the harbour and lakeside promenade offer a different perspective on the volcanic landscape rising behind the town. During the navigation season, scheduled boats connect Badacsony with other destinations around Lake Balaton, making it possible to combine a visit with a journey across the lake.
