Fishing

Dawn mists hovering over calm waters, the gentle rhythm of waves against the shore—fishing at Lake Balaton transcends mere sport to become a meditative communion with nature. While many anglers seek prized catches like carp, catfish and bream, locals know the magic lies in the experience itself: crisp mornings, velvet evenings, and peaceful shorelines where time slows. To access these productive waters, make sure to obtain a tourist angling license, easily purchased if you hold a national license from your home country.

Fishing Regulations

Tourist anglers should note that Balaton has specific rules to protect its aquatic ecosystem. With your tourist license (which permits fishing only from shore, pier, or while wading—not from boats), you're limited to using a single fishing rod. Daily catch restrictions allow for a maximum of three protected fish (no more than two of any single species) and up to 5kg of other native species. All catches must be accurately recorded in a fishing log. For more details. Find out more
