The Shipping History Visitor Centre, inaugurated in 2015, is designed in the shape of a large ship, making it a striking landmark along the shores of Lake Balaton.
Blending architecture with storytelling, the building itself already sets the tone for a maritime-inspired experience. Rising 70 metres above the level of the lake, the lookout tower offers a spectacular panoramic view. From the top, visitors can enjoy a perspective similar to standing in a ship’s crow’s nest, overlooking the vast waters of Balaton and the surrounding landscape. Inside, an interactive exhibition invites guests to explore the history of navigation on Lake Balaton. Through engaging displays and hands-on elements, visitors can discover how shipping developed over time and how it shaped the region’s culture and economy. Combining modern design, immersive content and breathtaking views, the centre offers a unique experience for those interested in both history and scenery.
