One of the most impressive historic monuments of the Balaton Uplands, the Kinizsi Castle offers visitors a vivid glimpse into 15th-century Hungary.

Perched on a hilltop, the castle originally served as the estate center of the Vezsenyi family before being granted in 1472 to Pál Kinizsi, the legendary military commander of Matthias Corvinus. Under his ownership, the fortress was significantly expanded and fortified. Its residential tower, inner courtyard, and defensive structures still preserve the characteristic features of medieval architecture.

Today, the restored interiors host interactive exhibitions, showcasing weapons and everyday objects that bring the Renaissance period to life. From the top of the tower, visitors are rewarded with a panoramic view over Nagyvázsony and the surrounding hills. The castle offers engaging experiences for all age groups, including family-friendly activities, medieval reenactments on weekends, and hands-on craft workshops. Easily accessible on foot from the village center, the castle is an ideal addition to any Balaton-area excursion, where the natural beauty of the region and the heroic era of Hungarian history come together in a compelling and immersive setting.
