The House of Arts Veszprém is a contemporary art centre founded in 1993. Today, it welcomes visitors of all ages across eight historic buildings located in the Baroque Castle District of Veszprém.
The institution serves as both an artistic and intellectual hub, as well as a significant tourist attraction. Situated near the Castle Gate and the Firewatch Tower, the inspiring Baroque surroundings influence artists, visitors, and staff alike. Our mission is to present the latest trends in contemporary art in Veszprém, guided by the principles of value, measure, and quality.
The institution operates five exhibition venues: Modern Gallery – László Vass Collection, Csikász Gallery, Dubniczay Palace, Castle Gallery, and the Granary.
Each venue hosts exhibitions of contemporary artists throughout the year, while the Veszprém Spring Exhibition is held biennially. Visitors can also explore collection-based exhibitions regularly. At the time of its establishment, the Municipal Fine Arts Workshop was already active; in 1999 it adopted the name WIM – Veszprém Visual Workshop. In 1993, the Vár Ucca Seventeen Publishing House was founded, which later evolved into the literary journal and publishing house Vár Ucca Műhely in 2000. The cellar of Dubniczay Palace houses the Tegularium – a unique brick collection featuring engraved, monogrammed, and heraldic bricks, as well as special roof tiles. The institution maintains strong connections with international galleries, cultural institutions across Hungary, and various civil organizations. In addition to presenting its collections, the House of Arts organizes temporary exhibitions, theoretical conferences, and festivals. Literary events provide opportunities to engage with contemporary works and authors, while art education programs offer immersive experiences with modern and contemporary art.
Thanks to its family-friendly developments, the institution is committed to making culture accessible to multiple generations, enabling visitors of different age groups to participate in programs and events simultaneously.
