Herend Porcelain Manufactory

The Herend Porcelain Museum and Manufactory is one of Hungary’s most renowned and historically significant centres of applied arts, located in the town of Herend at the foothills of the Bakony Hills, in Veszprém County. 

Founded in 1826 under the leadership of Mór Fischer, the Herend Porcelain Manufactory has since become one of the most famous porcelain producers in the world. Herend porcelain is internationally recognised as a symbol of exceptional craftsmanship, refined detail and rich decoration. To this day, every single piece is shaped and hand-painted in the manufactory, following the traditions of the old masters. Among the most iconic patterns are Victoria, Rothschild and Apponyi, all of which are admired and collected not only in Hungary but worldwide. The Herend Porcelain Museum, located within the manufactory, offers visitors a comprehensive insight into the entire porcelain-making process – from preparing the raw materials through shaping and firing to the final stages of hand-painting. The permanent exhibition presents the history of the manufactory, its most famous creations, and special pieces made for royalty and notable figures. At the “Mini Manufactory,” visitors can observe master artisans at work and even try porcelain painting themselves. The experience is complemented by an elegant porcelain shop and café, where drinks are served in original Herend porcelain.
