Heart of Balaton Statue

The Heart of Lake Balaton Sculpture is a simple yet iconic lakeside landmark located in Zamárdi, along the Margó Ede promenade. Made of red sandstone and installed in 2012, the sculpture has become one of the most popular photo spots on the southern shore of Lake Balaton. 

At first glance, the artwork may seem modest, but its true charm reveals itself when viewed up close. Looking through the heart-shaped opening frames a stunning panoramic view of Lake Balaton, often including the Tihany Peninsula and the Benedictine Abbey in the distance, creating a natural “postcard” scene. The sculpture was inspired by a local tradition called the “Balatoni Játszadalom,” where hundreds of participants form a giant human heart in the water by holding hands. This symbolic connection gives the sculpture deeper cultural meaning beyond its romantic appearance. 

Today, the site is a beloved meeting point and viewpoint, ideal for short stops, photography, and enjoying sunsets by the lake in a relaxed and scenic setting.
