Eau De Tihany – House of Scents

The Eau de Tihany – House of Scents offers visitors a unique and immersive “fragrant journey through time” in the heart of Tihany. This free, interactive exhibition is housed in a beautiful historic building and presents the rich heritage of Tihany’s lavender culture. 

Through three exhibition rooms, visitors can explore the history of Tihany lavender and the life of Dr. Gyula Bittera, the pioneer of lavender cultivation in Hungary and a key figure in the development of the country’s essential oil industry. The experience also offers insight into the world of fragrances and traditional perfumery, including how scented products such as soaps, bath bombs, and home fragrances are made. Guests can observe parts of the production process in the on-site “open manufactory,” then try and purchase these handcrafted products in the shop. Blending museum, workshop, and boutique, the House of Scents is not only an exhibition space but also a sensory experience that brings together history, craftsmanship, and the distinctive atmosphere of Tihany’s lavender tradition.
