Rada was once part of the estates of the Zalavár Abbey and was first mentioned in written records in 1263.
The abbey maintained both a residence and a manor here, and a parish priest has served the community since 1256. The three-aisled Roman Catholic church that can be visited today was built in Neo-Gothic style between 1890 and 1894. Its prominent tower is visible from afar and serves as a defining landmark of the village. Saint Stephen I of Hungary is the patron saint of the village, which is why he is depicted on the altarpiece of the central nave in a painting by János Vaszary.
