Standing prominently in the historic Castle District of Veszprém, Veszprémi Érseki Palota (Archbishop’s Palace of Veszprém) is one of the city’s most significant architectural landmarks and a masterpiece of Hungarian Baroque design.
The palace was built between 1765 and 1776 based on the plans of renowned architect Jakab Fellner, and has served as the residence of the bishops—and since 1993, archbishops—of Veszprém. The elegant U-shaped building rises on the edge of Castle Hill, reflecting both aristocratic grandeur and ecclesiastical importance. Its richly decorated interiors preserve centuries of cultural heritage, including paintings, sculptures, historic furniture, and valuable collections such as the archiepiscopal library and archives. Beyond its architectural value, the palace plays a central role in the spiritual and cultural life of the region.
Together with nearby landmarks such as the cathedral and chapels, it forms part of one of Hungary’s oldest continuously functioning ecclesiastical centres, where history, art, and living tradition meet.
